Remove all the carpets. In theory, a car carpet should be waterproof, so washed and dried out might be ok, assuming no shrinkage.

I had the brilliant idea to wash my floor carpets and discovered that I had destroyed the stiffening in the backing and they kept bunching up under my feet. Luckily, knowing that I am heavy on carpets I had ordered a spare set with the car. If all else fails it is always possible to put two more press studs at the front of the carpets.
