I suspect that MMC seem to be happy selling replacement parts rather than dealing properly with quality.
It starts at the design stage where potential problems can be anticipated and good practice applied to design out weaknesses.
As for bought in parts....the onus for good quality is passed back to them with monitoring done to ensure compliance. 7nless, of course, parts are simply bought for cheapest versions. Japanese car makers were stringent about this supplier based reliance. Their assembly factories were held out as the best but partly due to pressure on suppliers both on quality and supply.
JIT =. Just in time
JIT. = Jesus! It’s there!
JIT = Japanese Induced Torture.
Take your pick!
JIT is superb if managed properly though. But often means suppliers are made to hold more stock/have good production control.
MMC? I think they still have room for improvement.
Brand placing? Easy money...many will buy out of brand loyalty/must have/ snob value....
