Unless you have a very expensive intelligent charger (not Ctek) keeping one on a permanent float charge is a very efficient way to destroy a battery hence the interest.

Should I be dumping my CTEK for something better ?
No as long as you don't leave it permanently on charge it is adequate.
All recent versions of the Ctek charger I'm aware of are multi-stage meaning they will have as a minimum a final float charge mode at around 1.2 volts less than the main absorb charge voltage. As such
not only can they but its important they are left on continuously when vehice not in use for extended periods. Cycling the unit off then on again every two to three weeks will be beneficial in reducing stratification of electrolyte and warding off sulphation of the plates. I believe current models monitor battery voltage during long term float and automatically trigger this action though.
