Years ago I had a Renault 18 estate. A commuter/workhorse/family+ luggage carrier.

Good ride, easy maintenance, plenty of room.
It's a comedic tragedy of epic proportions that the actual qualities and capabilities of a car come a very poor second to the badge on the bonnet when it comes to getting approval from the motoring cognoscenti.
There are loads of cars out there that are excellent vehicles, with character, personality, and endearing features aplenty, but because they have the wrong badge they will always be overlooked by those obsessed with prancing horses or propellors or 3-pointed stars.
On the other had, it enables those who like cars for their own sake rather than the image they project to be able to buy some stonking vehicles for not much money at all. Marvellous.
