This morning swmbo met friends for coffee in a regular, well managed coffee shop. All are nurses/ex nurses and well educated about hygiene. A topic cropped up about a local pub. A small group were in there having a quiet drink. One states he has had a Covid test that was positive.
“I haven’t got any symptoms so I am ok as it must have been a wrong result”.
The pub is now closed and several people( families too?) in isolation.
It beggars belief at the stupidity of some people.
It is the attitudes of these ***** that open up the limiting measures of masks, social distancing self discipline to allow increased chances of spread. There is no GUARANTEE that the measures introduced re masks, distancing, in pub/shop/restaurant will significantly slow spread but ignoring them makes them less effective in attempts to manage the spread. Human nature and attitudes are a massive hurdle to clear.
Businesses that deal directly with the public, like pubs, restaurants, shops, must ensure customers adhere to the rules and act to call out those who who ignore them. Pubs have always been ejecting and barring bad behaving customers but everyone needs to adopt a zero tolerance to keep the Darwin Awards idiots away.
Covid is here for the long haul and our lives are not going to revert to what they were any time soon. A vaccine will help if/when it is developed but Covid 19 is here to stay. Smallpox has been eradicated, Polio is close to the same. Flu, colds, TB to name 3 are still with us but we seem to cope with them but unlikely to be completely eradicated.
Travel, hospitality, arts sectors of the economy are in for a long, tough time. Will the Government introduce more measures specifically to help them? Targeted tax allowances, lower employment cosrs etc.
A tough time for Politicians.
