We are hearing quite a lot on viruses lately and I was reading that although they stretch back to the origins of life, they are not really alive as they are simply a protein shell containing genetic material (RNA or DNA) that need living cells to replicate.
Then I was thinking what is the point of viruses? Why do they need to replicate themselves if they are not alive?
But the other day, I was reading a Richard Dawkins book from the 90’s ‘Climbing Mount Improbable’ where at the end of the book he had a chapter on this subject and the only answer seems to be ‘REPLICATE ME’
And that’s all there is to it.
