A fuse that melts like this but refuses to blow is definitely the result of high resistance, resistance creates heat and is typically either a function of cable of insufficient gauge, or simply bad connection, as it was in my case.

My Marchal fog lights had given months of reliable service, I'm sure someone will be along to tell me how illegal this is but I tend to use them as daytime running lights, Monty is Sport Green so tends to disappear to other drivers in the day unless I light up, yellow light seems to work well as it gets you noticed by other road users without blinding or dazzling them.

However, more recently something changed with the reliability, I suffered two melting fuse incidents and on both occasions the fuse point blank refused to blow. In both cases the melting started after the car took a jolt, the first time was a pothole but the second was just some hard acceleration, it all made sense when I found the loose fitting bulb holders in the Marchal lamps.

All sorted now, and simply solved by pre-tensioning the sprung contact, it was probably only marginally tentioned from new but had further relaxed over the last 12 months of use causing the bad connection, however, despite finding the issue and proving it was not the result of excessive current I've still decided to go LED.

These BA21S Marchal LEDs are 3000k so emiit a yellow light straight out of the box, but it'll be interesting to see how they perform because for an LED to emit a yellow light it must do so by adding a bit of blue and green to its natural white light output, as I understand it this can slightly lower the LUX output, perhaps I should have gone for 'warm white' as I'll be using the yellow glass globes anyway?

I'll report back on the results once fitted but Classic Bulbs do say these LEDs put out 1,800 lumens which is the same as I'd expect from the original 45w Marchal incandescent bulbs, so as long as they perform just as well I'll be happy as they worked great by day and night, of course the real advantage of going LED is they draw significantly less current which for many reasons is always a good thing in my book thumbs
