Possibly but he does use a wee tin top for the commute to and fro school I think albeit in an MGBGT of late.

Yep for the last 14 months the commute has been in my 1980 MGBGT (do about 300miles a week) interspersed with the Mog for occasional school days, weekends and holidays. Both could be classed as 'toy' cars in some hands - I know many MG's from the club that do barely my monthly mileage in a year.

Often chat with people as I'm tinkering on the drive - some initial comments are 'have you won the lottery?', but when I point out that I don't have another car, and the combined value is under £20K they soon realise I'm just some twat who enjoys playing with big toys.

I do consider the cars and bikes as toys for me, as I get so much enjoyment out of them. I popped in for a chat with Mike Pullen yesterday and I said that no matter how crap my day at work has been, I always look forward to the drive home. Couldn't say that about the Corsa - eminently practical and cheap to run, but completely soul-less. I don't like driving the Mrs VW Golf for the same reason.

i certainly don't see them as investments - the complete opposite in fact - I bought the Mog for £17K, must have spent at least £8K (probably much more) over the last 5 years on seats, gearbox, engine etc, and she's now probably worth £15K max. However, don't care. I'll take her to the grave.
