This groundbreaking for MMC.
I guess it is coincidental and influenced with the new ownership.

Re putting the problems right......
Pedal box should be replaced. No messing about with inspections even if a licensed inspector with correct equipment checks it. Far simpler and cheaper to do a straight swop. If MMC want to check the ones removed then do so for info purposes.
Same with the chassis cracking. Unless they call in specialists to check then the average mechanic will not be able to check properly.
I did a lot of NDT using surface crack detection both in simple kit form and magnetic/eddy current testing with fluorescent magnetic inks. We also did ultrasonic testing with portable and in-line units. Cleaning paint off and visual is totally insufficient, especially for a weld.
Re the chassis....I wonder if stress analysis has been done to design the upgrades? I hope it wasn’t a case of just adding of extra fillets based on “ that should do it”.
There won’t be a large number of vehicles involved, so total costs limited.
I hope those owners out of pocket having paid for the upgrades get reimbursed.
If the new owners are behind this recall then good for them. It would improve faith in MMC for the future. I also hope they insist on a better design and development system that builds in safety and quality.
WilsonLaidlaw......your checks will not reveal cracking WITHIN the weld. To check the surface you could use a dye penetrant kit. This link shows the process.
