By that reasoning, surely my priority would be staying away from school and self isolating for two weeks?

If I am putting my 5 friends at risk when we are maintaining proper social distancing and have a decent hygiene regime, then the 100's of kids/staff I encounter every day, without a scrap of any of these precautions, are at far more at risk, and the number of people I could infect is exponentially higher?
So you are saying that 6 mates can meet in a cafe and stay 2m away from each other? You weren't clear about that.
Could it be that the risk to the kids at school is forced on you by gov but the risk to your friends is voluntary?
Please don't think I'm begrudging your small pleasure, I think I'm just saying that we all take risks, we just decide which ones to take individually. The loonies who have a rave in the park at 11pm just have a different perspective on the risks don't they? I heard a teenager say "so what if a few old people die, it's time they moved over"(!) and from her point of view that was a valid response......
For my living I make house visits. Most people's reaction when they ask me to call and I say I'm not doing house calls at the moment, is "but we are covid free here" which means that they interpret my action ( or lack of) as self preservation on my part. When I point out to them that I could infect them if I'd caught it yesterday and didn't know yet, that I'm sacrificing my income for their benefit, it comes as a surprise to them to look at it from that point of view. We all impose our world view on the information available I guess.
