In Flintshire (where I live ) the default will apparently be 20mph where ever there are street lights unless otherwise signed, but they’ve been putting street lights in for years because they say the roads are too dark for safe driving. Also villages here tend to sprawl into each other so street lighting sprawls too. The council have also been busy reducing 40, 50 and national limits by as much as 20mph. One road I travelled on my return journey had three different speed limit signs at the same location. 30 on the left, 40 on the right hand side of the road and a big round 50 painted on the road surface.

The roads around Llangollen have all been reduced from national limit to 40, and those over to llandegla and now camera limited to 50. The fantastic road over the Denbigh moor (evo triangle) had no limit signs other than at either end but several sections of street lights, there are numerous speed traps and camera enforcements but no sensible way to know what limit you are supposed to drive to.

Like many things in Wales it’s an excellent resource spoilt buy a dictatorial political dogma. And no real prospect of change due to the prevailing apathetic electorate

Oohs, did I really get all narky this early in the day, sorry.
