Out for a bimble over Exmoor for 4 hours before the tidal wave of tourists descend on us this afternoon via the M5. Headed into Minehead, then out on the A39 to Porlock and up Porlock hill and along the coast to Lynton and Lynmouth, stopped in the car park overlooking Lorna Doon valley at the top of Countisbury hill but the little cafe was closed, on again and dropped down into Lynmouth but did not stop as a few tourists were gathering, up and out via Lynton on the B3234 and rejoined the A39 to Blackmoor gate, turned left toward South Molton on the A399 and then after a few miles left again onto the B3358 to Simonsbath. Intended to stop at the Black Venus inn at Challacombe (16th centrury pub) but it was now lunch time and busy, the regulars had beaten us to it, so onward to Simonsbath and a stop for tea at the recently re-opened tea shop, onward once more via the B3223/B3224 to Weddon cross. Turned left at Weddon Cross onto the A396 to Dunster past its fine castle and finally back onto the A39 and home.. Its a nice gentle 3-4 hr circular drive with a tea stop, its mostly good driving roads, the B roads over Exmoor are a joy for views and mostly not populated too much by tourists. If you ever come this way the roads over Exmoor were made for a morgan.. better still in Spring and Autumn.
