I just want to say how much I'm enjoying this thread. Shame it's not in person as I'm sure there would have been raised voices and in the end, 10 paces and pistols at dawn.
With one sweeping generalisation I'm probably going to upset all traditional Morgan owners, 'no one cares about you anymore'.
It's true, as a target market you are dying out. Although you are the people that have helped keep our little British car company alive over the years, you job is now done and Morgan thank you for your commitment, loyalty and service. There have been many brands in the past that have not recognised that development and change is an essential part of survival, just fading away over time as they hold onto the past and what they've always known and done. Morgan doesn't want to be one of them.
I'm sure that Charles Morgan was looking to the future at the point of selling Morgan, with passion and money being invested into Morgan, to enable growth and development. The introduction of the aluminium platform has allowed the transition from a car that looked to the past for inspiration, to one that looks forwards to the unknown as a canvass for opportunity.
The Supersport is a real defining point for the brand. It separates the 'traditional' from the modern. The Plus Four bringing the traditional 'classic' look, with the Supersport embodying the modern forward movement. For those new buyers of a pure classic looking car, the Four is there and waiting, for those wanting something else, then another Morgan will provide.
the Supersport brings opportunities to reach a younger market, with a quality of drive and the introduction of tech that will keep diving enthusiasts happy. It has a strength and presence that only the Areo before it has managed to achieve. This car is solid and holds its own in any environment and in any company. It needs to be seen, then seen again to full appreciate how good this car actually is.
I will of course document my spec, build and delivery; if you want to experience this vicariously you can find me on YouTube and instagram, Julian_theviews
see you there.
I'm really puzzled where this 'them and us' mentality is coming from? I wonder if it's a reflection of todays youth that they have a 'if you're not with me you're against me' mentality?
I'll accept that there are one or two individuals who seem to have been wishing the demise of Morgan since they dropped the king pin oiler, but most of us are passionate about the company and rather excited about all the new developments and innovations. My 80year old Mum and 90 year old Dad still visit the factory most weeks, and given hafl a chance she'd steal a Super 3 cos she thinks they'd be fun.....
That said, we are still entitled to our opinions, and that means we can and will critique anything that comes out of the factory. My ultimate dream is a satin black Aeromax. Rich wants and Aston Green one. Doesn't mean I'm going to throw my toys out and flounce off the forum cos he has a different view. Personally, I thought the first iteration of the Aero looked an absolute dogs dinner, but that didn't mean I wanted the factory to collapse.
Ultimately the factory has never cared about me - I have an old 4/4 worth about £12K. I have had a few cups of coffee in the experience centre, and once bought a jumper but MMC do not make a penny from me, and are unlikely to in the future, so why should they care? Still doesn't stop me being passionate about Morgan - as said previously, like many here my relationship with the brand goes back decades, and many on here drive cars that my Grandad had a hand in their construction.
I hope you enjoy your Supersport, and would be great to see some pictures when you pick it up, be personally, I'd happy to be spared any arty waflle
