Interesting. I looked on Auto Trader and according to them the cheapest Nissan Leaf, brand new, was £27,000. I then looked for 3 year old cars with average mileage. Prices seemed to start from £7,000. Hardly “free” motoring over 3 years!

Add to that the fact that that the equivalent car would only cost about 10,000. Vw up around 10T, elec up is 28T. And that we taxpayers give 5T or so to anyone rich enough to spend nearly three times as much as necessary on their car....seems like a complicated way to transfer money from poorer taxpayers to wealthy ones to me. And lets not forget that the average earner has contributed considerably to the installation of the solar panels in whoever is wealthy enough to afford them's house and if they charge up on the road we subsidise that too.....then it doesn't look all that free does it?
