We were pushed to buy diesel, use plastic to wrap food for hygiene and storage, take vitamin supplements - this list is long - only to be told later that it was detrimental to health or the environment.
I cant remember any of those "pushes". I cant help but think that mostly we like to blame someone else for the choices we make ourselves in this free country.
I have always been able to buy petrol engined cars and two out of our three are petrol. I bought a diesel family car because I knew from the laws of thermodynamics that a higher compression ratio woiuld make for more effeiciency and lower fiuel costs. As for p[lastic wrapped food, I chose that because it is more hygenic in the main but I do see a lot of waste / excess packaging which annoys the inner Yorkshireman. Vitamin pills? We have had endless publicity for decades saying that they werent necessary on a balanced diet and in truth I have never taken any. Still havent caught beri beri either.
Had the government been pushing these things my reaction would have been to refuse to follow instructions. Just like with speed limits, I use my own judgement not the governments.
All that sounds really pompous doesnt it? But lets stop blaming government for thigs we decide to do urselves.
