I would say that 200 miles is my realistic range, perhaps 220 in warm weather and low wind and 175-180 in cold winter.
I think for the UK market that range is plenty. It is 3 hours of motorway driving and 4-4.5 hours of country road driving, surely plenty enough to want to have a break for 10-20 minutes or perhaps a lunch stop for 45-60 minutes.
In practical day to day terms I agree. But for 7 years I had a Volvo S60 LPG car with a range of 200 miles and the need, as with an EV, to go to a specific location to refill rather than any old supermarket. Only difference is that the LPG refill was as quick as a petrol one. I found this range restriction really irritating. Yes I dont actually need the 600 mile range of my current diesel but its real handy to have it. And I dont want to have to hang around a charging point for an hour, or even more than a few minutes. Life is too short to spend it in filling stations
So yes I would like an electric car if only for the silent running. But 200 miles range and hour long recharges dont do it for me.
