Ok, an update. Finally the workshop has all the parts needed to fit the new spec exhausts (with an extra mount below the silencer, I'll cal them Mk 5 to make it easier). I suspect all this time was due, among other known issues, to some head banging between the dealer and the factory about if this was a warranty claim or not. Go figure ...
Now I am facing a true dilema. Quick recap of events:
Mk 1 (the originals) - lasted 500 kms
Mk 2 (the thicker pipes version) - lasted 1500 kms
Mk 3 (the stronger welds version) - lasted 2000 kms
Mk3 "mariocp edition" (cracks repaired and a second flexible section added) - used for about 1000 kms during 2016, waiting for Mk 4
Mk 4 (same as Mk3) - lasted 2000 kms (no surprise there). Cracked by the end of 2016, when the car had about 7000 to 7500 kms
Mk3 "mariocp edition" - refitted to the car after Mk 4 cracked. Have done about 6000 kms since and these, added to the 1000 kms of their first "run", make them good enough for 7000 kms of coping with whatever made all others crack. 7000 kms so far, they don't show any signs of wear or impending cracks.
Car now has almost 14.000 kms
So, what to do? Do I drill new holes to the car, change its ECU, fit the new exhausts as they come, so their own warranty doesn't get void?
OR
Do I drill the holes to fit the new mount, but have those pipes cut to add a second flexible joint too, and do nothing about the ECU? Of course that'll be me releasing MMC of any and all responsability for what happens next.
Or something else entirely different? Advice would be welcome
