Tim, I would be interested in your view on the EDF Powervault 3 package with Grid Services which gives an 8kw battery installation for £4999?
Having worked with them for 12 years, I can't be expected to be able to provide a completely dispassionate view about EDF, but I know they have a great team of people working on their Energy Solutions product set, and see the whole EV/Battery/Low Carbon generation sector as absolutely central to their business vision. They are investing very significantly.
Having said that, it's also the case that the see themselves as 'Leading edge rather than bleeding edge' so you won't see the real snazzy innovations that some of the smaller companies like Ovo are already getting into - but on the other hand if EDF offers something you can usually depend on it being a solid and workable solution.
The other thing that sets EDF apart from all the competition is their abilities in forecasting future demand, consumption and the state of the energy market - so ultimately if they trade your energy for you you will end up getting a better deal in the long run.
As for Powervault, it's not EDF technology but is licensed and is available from other providers too. There are two types available - Powervault3 and Powervault3eco. Its the second one that uses end of life EV batteryies and is cheaper, but is only guaranteed for 3 years. The first uses new Lithium-Polymer cells and is guaranteed for 10 years. More expensive, but at the moment I think that's the one I would go for. But as they say, you pays your money and you takes your choice.
