The side pipes do have a few wrinkles such as total volume which usually gets you blocked for track days. The single pipes on the S2-S3 only really got loud at higher revs and throttle angles. The later dual pipes (especially with the optional sports cats) go quite a lot louder and deeper.

I would worry about pointing them down at the floor as the standing wave could build up and become a big drone. The Skyline had the option of a single or dual pipes. The big single was horrible at motorway speeds and I swapped to the dual which was a higher note and less wearing.

When we toured in the Coupe which has the dual pipes it was really noisy at 75 but smoothed out at 80. Well that’s my excuse anyway
