Flu is much more infectious that COVID-19 but has a lot lower death rate, 0.6% as opposed to 3.6% So COVID-19 is 60 times more lethal, plus 15% of cases are very serious infections.

Sorry, my typo. Death rate from flu is estimated at 0.06%.

Death rates are very difficult to pin down, flu is of course very poorly reported a it's so common, and COVID-19 is in very early days and has a very skewed distribution. Anyone under 60 has got practically nothing to worry about, but for people over 65 and especially those with other health issues it's a very different matter.
