So basically this is the UK Governments strategy. Having observed how well cruise ships function in spreading the contagion when everyone is locked up in the one place we have decided to do the same thing with the whole country.

1. Sit back and do bugger all so that 60 - 70% of the population catch the virus to build up herd immunity.
2. When the inevitable 40% of those are seriously enough to be hospitalised you will have something like 25 - 30% of the population that will be seeking hospitalisation. Sure that is over an arc of time but by then the available hospital beds will be full and a fair proportion of the hospital staff will be KO too.
3: We know that those seriously ill and that most of the fatalities will be in the over 65 age bracket so the rules of triage are that when you are overwhelmed you have to give medical help to those most likely to survive, so we will not accept over 65 year olds in the hospital and we will tell them that they will be better off with home family care in their familiar surroundings - we are really kind that way.
4. We also know that without adequate care most of those will die, but hey, at least they won't be blocking up the hospitals. Stiff upper lip and all that!

Of course very few Morgan owners are over the age of 65 so that won't be a problem.

Just think of all the problems we have solved: less burden on the pension system and NHS with all those old buggers out of the way, the problem of our aging population resolved with a new immune younger population. Pollution levels reduced because we will now be able to scrap all those old cars and we won't need so many of those polluting cruise ships either. All those young people will be so grateful that they are bound to vote for us at the next election.

We will know if the Italian approach is working in one to two week's time. By then the those who have become infected but not showing symptoms at the start of the "curfew" will be showing symptoms unless they are part of the 20% sane carriers. If the number of new infections starts to fall in about a week from now we will know that it is working.

Personally I think I will sit here happily in my own home, only going out for essential supplies as per the government's recommendations, until the peak has passed and, with the warmer weather, the season ends. I will then go for my free flu shot before the next season starts which, I hope, by then will include some of that herd immunity,
