The point of the lockdown is to buy time, by slowing the spread of the virus. So that the numbers remain manageable for health services, so that the Pharma companies have time to develop vaccinations and drugs to treat the symptoms.

The Dominic Cummings idea of just allowing some pensioners to die may seem fine in the abstract, but when you boil it down the death toll being maybe half a million in the UK, and it's not just faceless numbers, but your sister, your mum, your granny, are you still OK with it ?

I thought the herd immunity idea came from Sir Patrick Vallance, Chief Scientific Adviser to the government, rather than Dominic Cummings.
