Why is the WHO and the many Governments reacting so agressively to what is "just another new virus?"

So far, perhaps 50 people have died and a few thousand are unwell, almost all in China.

It is worth comment that road traffic accidents kill 260,000 a year in China, according to the WHO: that is 20% of all road fatalities in the world.
Air pollution is linked to 1.2 million premature deaths a year in China, that is 40% of the global total.
So existing, preventable environmental and social issues kill almost 1.5 million Chinese a year.

Unless there is something really worrying that we are not being told, such as a higher than 50% death rate for people infected with the new Coronavirus, I don't understand why everyone is panicking. Another 100,000 deaths, in the context of the RTA and pollution related deaths, would barely be noticed. Indeed, the overall death rate in China is quoted at 7.11 per 1000 per year, or about 9 millions.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but it seems to me that there is something very odd going on.
