What's more, I was hugely reassured by the President's address to the nation last night. Macron spoke very well, and showed real leadership. HMG's advice to the public to avoid pubs, restaurants, clubs and so on seems in comparison rather passive aggressive, and a complete abdication of responsibility. The licensed trade have been hung out to dry. If the government doesn't want people congregating in pubs, they should order their closure and to provide a package of aid to help those businesses, to help them to weather the crisis.


My local (an independant craft beer joint) have decided to reduce their opening hours, but are also now offering a home delivery service. They just had an enforced closure at their other gaff, and one of the storms blew the roof off a neighbouring building and closed that section of the retail park. I really hope they manage to survive.
