The point of the lockdown is to buy time, by slowing the spread of the virus. So that the numbers remain manageable for health services, so that the Pharma companies have time to develop vaccinations and drugs to treat the symptoms.

The Dominic Cummings idea of just allowing some pensioners to die may seem fine in the abstract, but when you boil it down the death toll being maybe half a million in the UK, and it's not just faceless numbers, but your sister, your mum, your granny, are you still OK with it ?

Spot on and succinctly put Pandy. This has been the argument all along but many people haven't got this message, believing the lockdown to be to prevent just them from getting it. This mistaken belief mixed with a bullish Alt-Right minimal government agenda may well have contributed to the somewhat sluggish initial responses of the UK and USA governments to the unfolding crisis.
