First I had to remove the front number plate, which had been fixed with double sided neoprene tape. This was not easy, without bending the alloy number plate.
Then it was easy, grill and badge bar off, and have a good look.
This is what I found:

No screw in the captive nut. It was the same on the other side. I found a couple of hex headed set screws, but they wouldn't go in.
So I removed the lower mounting screws and moved everything about until I'd got the 2 screws in place, with lock washers.
The I got the lower nuts in place, and fitted nyloc nuts.
Everything lined up so I tightened it all.
The beading is now nicely nipped up between cowl and wing.

The question is " were the screws ever there, or were they forgotten when the car was being worked on or did they vibrate lose and fall out?" The answer matters not, really, the job is done and I enjoyed it.

Now I have to refit the grill, I'm thinking about taking the mesh off and spraying it black and then a cream "8", or "V8" or "+8" on it. Thoughts?

Peter, my friend painted the number 4 to his 4/4 mesh grille. I think the number 8 would look good on yours
