I was getting irritated by the SATNAV mounted on the windscreen because wherever I put it that I could see it easily it would partially obscure the view of the road, especially curbs and corners at night down country lanes. I didn't want to make any extra holes in the dash so I used a bit of scrap aluminium bar, bent it to roughly the contour of the dash, removed the tonneau cover stud (which I never use) and fixed the aly strip using a slightly longer bolt. The strip went under the rear view mirror which acts as an additional securing plate. I found a self adhesive ball mount on eBay for a fiver which is metal rather than the plastic one that came with the Garmin. It's stayed fixed in place for several days now so looks like the adhesive on the ball mount is plenty strong enough. I now have unobstructed vision through the windscreen and can see the SATNAV easily, Although it doesn't look like it in the photos I can see all of the instruments easily. Five quid and an hour of my time (could have been less but I buffed the aly strip) and I'm very happy with the result.
