An 80 odd mile run to Peterhead Prison Museum yesterday on a sunny day. Well worth a visit. Built in 1888 as Scotland's first convict prison it closed in 2013. Until 1888 Scottish prisoners were sent to England to serve their sentence. The regime was harsh. They had their own railway to take convicts to a quarry 2 1/2 miles away. They give you an audio headset for the tour & go at your own pace. One of the guides there Jackie Stuart was a a prison officer & held hostage for 3 days in a riot in 1987. He was rescued by the SAS. On departure someone wanted a photo with me in the car, you get used to this. http://peterheadprisonmuseum.com/
