I find the best protection against the wind on longer trips is a leather flying helmet sheepskin unless warm then its a plain type, face mask/tube or scarf, leather jacket and gloves. If wet then open face helmet with full visor and motorcycle waterproof oversuit.
Ive made up a left footrest from 25mm x 5mm alloy bar which sits against the footwell side a couple of inches in front of the clutch pedal.
