This day, April 29, I went out on an 80 mile ride in Southern Vermont. I am approaching riding season gingerly as one first has to check out the state of the pavement before one decides to get hoonish and stupid.

The roads are, more or less, terrible. The only good roads are the 2 Interstate highways as well as the one limited access state highway, which aren't much fun unless speed is your thing. Too much traffic and tractor trailer combos which throw crap in your face. All the rest still have frost heaves, depressions, pot holes and one miserable road I had the extreme misfortune to be on is trying to return to its previous state: gravel.

Today also had wind gusts during the entire journey. It ripped my hat off at one point so I had to stop and do a search. It ripped my hat off yet the goggle strap was still on the back of my head where it belonged.

It wasn't by any measure a very long ride but I am very tired. Fighting the roads, the wind and the sideways gusting had me doing everything to just keep to my side of the road as well as just staying on it!

I didn't have fun today. I hope tomorrow will be better.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.
