Your reference to TVR prompts me to relate my experience with 13 of them (including a couple I bought back) over the period from 1978-2020. The first was a personal export to Switzerland where we were living at the time, I collected the car from the factory in Blackpool and drove it straight to Zurich. The local dealer made some small mods to meet Swiss specs (and also managed to cause some rear-end damage !). Later after returning to England I bought another one new from the biggest UK dealer at the time. Subsequently I bought a 1961 classic from a specialist dealer. All the others were used and I bought them privately. I only traded them when I wanted a change (vanity frankly), but also owned two at the same time. Over that 42 year period, one had some suspension work done, two of them required a trip to a specialist for conversion from leaded to unleaded heads, but other than that it was occasional DIY jobs and regular maintenance/MoT by local garages. Nothing major, no dramas. You might say that I was lucky, but at no time were those words "they all do that Sir" used. I was very happy with my ownership, and only changed to a Morgan when getting in and out of TVRs became too difficult for me and my wife (we now have 146 years between us).
