Seriously though comparing like for like the Volvo XC40 electric weighs 1000 lbs more than its ICE equivalent.

Perhaps surprisingly EV's fair better than ICE vehicles in a head on crash for this very reason. The former due to its weight will tend to continue in its chosen path and has more crumple zones. The ICE vehicle is the one that will likely be thrown off its path and the concentrated mass of the engine could do serious harm to occupants.
