Not for most people. For pretty much the entirety of my working career I had a daily car commute of 35 miles or less. When I was schlepping up and down to London it was much less as I only had to get to the station. The national average is 20 miles a day.
Sure, there are always going to be travelling salesmen and the like who are going to need long ranges, but they'll probably be able to run something with a longer range on a PCP or whatever.
I suppose so, we may be unusual in that I do a 50 mile daily commute (no chargers at work) and my Mrs does 80 miles (no chargers at work) when not WFH.
We went to see her Aunty/Uncle on Sunday. - 70mile there, 70mile back - we were there for about 5hrs. Off to the Zoo tomorrow - 60mile round trip. Worcester to see the folks next Sunday - 90mile trip (although probably stay overnight, Covid permitting) A 45mile range would make things really difficult, or take hours longer.
I could live with a 150-200mile range. Inconvenient, but liveable. Anything sub 100 would be very frustrating.
I used to have Land Rover on lpg. Had a range of around 180miles - I found the search for LPG fill ups when touring the country equally frustrating.
