The trouble with being a massive petrol-head and not also being massively wealthy is that there are so many really nice/good/desirable cars and bikes that I have a list far too long of the ones which I think I will want to keep for ever and for-go the rest. What actually happens in reality is that about 9-12 months after getting such a vehicle I have developed green eyes for the next "Perfect long-term car" and I therefore end up changing cars far too often. My wife is the same (in that she also changes cars frequently - not that I change the wife every 9-12 months!). In the last 4 years we between us have had 13 different cars! Bloody hell, that's even worse than I expected.
I find I'm always 'head over heels' in love with my next car, especially once the newness wears off the current car. Your posting caused me to reflect on how many cars I've had for any length of time during my lifetime. Whilst I have slowed down a lot in the last 15 years or so, I'm nowhere near your current consumption rate. I stopped counting at 36 personal cars, 12 company cars and 14 motorbikes, the wife who has only been driving since the early 90's has had a mere 11 cars and 1 motorbike by comparison.
I only remember making money on one car, it was stolen whilst in storage and its value had risen, I'm quite sure I could have bought a small house with the money I've burnt thru on my motoring acquisition and short retention policy. Two houses possibly with the money spent on bringing the used/classic cars all up to like new/pristine standard..........
I hope the wife doesn't spot this post even she might be a little surprised by the car numbers............it will make it increasingly harder to put off the new kitchen. I console myself with have been prudent in having lived in the same apartment for 36 years, although I did buy another adjacent apartment just for its garage!
The things we do, well I'm reliably informed you are only here once, so might as well try and make the most of it.
