I rewatched a couple of Vintage Voltage progs recently. They convert any vehicle. I can understand the performance match for, say, a sports car. However, even for the small family/ runabouts such as the small family types they push the performance when basically it is making an ICE car “ greener”. Why not manage the power to extend range instead of the power surge/ performance that is often a selling ( top trumps) point?
An ICE car is designed to be like it is yet we seem to see EV versions that are modified ICE cars. I have a petrol Sportage but there are two EV versions ( can’t remember if diesel though). Took 2 months to get delivery, EV would be about 10 months. Cost more too. All models offer a range of spec with more added tech/toys. No wonder the shortage of processors is causing delays. Mine has an electric handbrake. I am now used to it and like it but why does it not cancel unless my seatbelt is plugged in? I wanted to move the car a couple of metres on the drive but had to put it on. Overly complex system links. Do Kia think it’s owners are stupid? Legislation overkill?
No wonder modern cars are £££££ if they are stuffed with so much tech. More toys/tech induces sales? Perceived extra value added? Nice to have but at a cost?
Looking at the Morgan car configuration the extras are astonishingly expensive. Higher profit generation.
Watching Harry’s you tube vid sums it up for me. Price of car too high, infrastructure inadequate, you need to seriously change attitude to manage your journey and think about which EV is suitable. Quentin Wilson also advised serious research before going EV to get the right car for journey profiles. The wrong car for your needs can result in problems. More so than with an ICE car.
