Solid state batteries are a step forward, probably a big one.
But they still need charging and my view is that outside the urban/suburban areas it will be another 5 years before fast chargers are everywhere.

Hydrogen is going to be a player, especially for white vans and larger.

Synthetic gasoline will be available for toy cars and their petrolheads.

Diversity is the name of the game, actually I support anything that does not involve fossil carbon! Diversity is good.

As to my comment that dragging dead weight is not being green, I was thinking more about engineering elegance and efficiency, rather than the source of the energy. Colin Chapman would be appalled by the weight of EVs...one of the reasons I like the Porsche 718 is the engineering elegance, BUT i accept it is costly to service because the ultra compact power plant makes many "simple" jobs complex. But a 2 to 3 tonne vehicle cannot be a lithe, fun thing..the Boxster S is a big, luxurious go cart... point, squirt and panic....
