Here's a good real world example.

My Mrs has just got a Golf GTE Hybrid company car. We're just getting to grips with it, and haven't had a charger installed at home yet, so charging through the three pin plug option is not cost effective (we have to trail a lead through an open downstairs window so can't take advantage of the cheaper overnight rates). Got a mate who used to install EV chargers for BMW so he's coming round in a week or so to install a proper charger at cost.

Anyhow, just went into Wellingborough and thought we'd try out the BP Pulse charger system in the carpark. After jumping through numerous hoops, we got 50 mins of charge in, which topped the empty battery up to 25% at a cost of £1.56.

The hybrid gives a quoted range of 40 miles on electic alone. However, by the time we'd left the carpark, popped into B and Q and then driven home, we were back down to 1%, a total of 5 miles.

So, on electric alone, it's cost us 31p per mile. If she'd just used petrol, it would have cost about 13p per mile......
