You have to admire the way the government and car industry have made it all seem so easy, buy a electric car and go green.

They cost £10k-20k more for a given use pattern/size etc.
They need high speed charging if it is to be effective.
Until renewable electrical generation (cannot count Nuc in that?) becomes the dominant norm they effectively displace the dirt not replace it.
With predicted electrical pricing going up like that will it save money.

Still they can use it as an excuse to raise taxes on petrol and diesel cars which we all have.
They get more revenue out of the VAT and car tax for the new sales of more expensive BEV's
I guess there is an intention to try and support the new car manufacturing businesses in the UK, remind how many of the remaining factories make BEV's

You outline the issue excellently. Unless you adjust correctly, have the right equipment and lifestyle this is a puff piece and I am starting to feel like the punchline.
PHEV's dragging around their batteries as a tax incentive.

I can see the people on the forum who have done it in an integrated manner - solar, batteries etc - and it shows the real benefits but how many of us are in a postion to do it that well.
