If they can get 20 years out Tow vehicles and Transits, we're going to be well into 2050 before we see any significant reduction. By that time, synthetic fuels will be affordable and the ICE engine will be back in favour......
Its becoming a bit like Fashion, mini skirts are in, maxi skirts are in, bell bottoms are in. Diesel will give more mileage so reduce emissions, diesel is dirty, buy BEV...... Just give me the research on that one please.
As a separate item I am also convinced that we need more noise from EVs as a matter of pedestrian safety. There should be some sort of sound emitter that works up to any urban maximum speed, say 70 kph, and not that annoying hair drier whine either
Even with the current rules they are too quiet. It should be made law that retro fitting is required and subject to MOT inspection.
This comes from someone who nearly finished under an EV the other day while stepping aside to pass a parked car on a narrow lane.
If we go down that route we need to allow for the unaware dipsticks that walk around with earphones in/cans on issue as well. A good blip of the Coupes V8 through the sidepipes usually makes them clear the floor by a couple of inches. Little else takes them out of their odd insular world. Perhaps 5G can be used to make their headphones send a message when they are walking down the middle of the road paying no attention. A klaxon and someone screaming "get out of the sodding way" would be good.
We had a neighbour down the hill purchase a new Mustang MachE electric thing. I hear him whine gently past the window at 7.30 each morning. At first I had no idea what the noise was so waited one morning to find out. I do feel slightly awkward taking the Coupe out of the garage in the morning due to the impact on the neighbours, so I guess the additional of a small droning noise is a good thing.
Peter, on the eTransit range and charging thing, they do get lunchhours! They may have to do 130 items per day but they are given (45mins) for lunch still. I think that the LEVC London Taxi has gone down reasonably well with the cabbies using a range extender model, it would seem like the best solution? I see Honda and Nissan going down this series hybrid route now.
