I started restoring the rear license plate lamp (the marker, I think it's called) I took it all apart and put the pieces in a box for safe keeping. The chrome housing has a crack and the metal I think is too thin to try welding. I thought of silver soldering the crack closed but I doubt if that would stand up to replating or road vibration, so today I ordered a new chrome housing from Morgan Spares.
I also put the front axle on jack stands since one of the more imposing items on the repairs list is replacing the front bumper supports and brackets as somewhere back in the swirling mists of History, the old ones had been repaired with mediocre welds and have become broken. When I first started work on this car I covered it with a plastic tarp and put a bug bomb underneath to kill the Black Widow spiders and chase out the mice/rats that took up residence. Then I took out the carpets and upholstery cushions and rear "floor" (if that's what you call it since it's a roadster,) and built new seat risers as the old ones were shot. The carpeting left a mess on this "floor" so I sanded it smooth today as well, ready for a coat of protective paint while it awaits recarpeting along with the rest of the car.
on some future day
