A smear of threadlock on the thimble threads, and just remember to occasionally check for tightness.

Yes, I was thinking on those lines.
Received the new ratchet and pawl yesterday. Pleased I decided to renew them as the old ratchet does look worn.
The only problem I had was that the pawl was a tight fit so I had to lap it using fine valve grinding compound. Most of it was probably old dried and hardened grease but still took a while.
