Yes, there needs to be a bend in the pipe so that it's closer to the chassis rail in order to clear the tire. I just had ours to an exhaust shop for a look to eliminate the side outlet. He's ordered the pipe and hangers and I'll post before and after pictures when it is done.

The, so-called, specialist made the system so that there was no clearance to a rear tyre. She managed around 10 miles before a blow out. IIRC, 4/4 of this era have a “kink” in the pipe as it passes the wheel to ensure sufficient clearance - its a long time since I have looked underneath one.
