Looking back at the records I see petrol was around half a crown a gallon in 1948
Here is quoted at 10.5 Pence per gallon in 1949 so 2/6 could well be right in my younger years when you look at how little price progression there was at the time.

It was said in my original post as a giveaway in humour but as you made it a thing a little clarification is necessary wink
