A slightly longer trip in my 4 seater Plus 4 yesterday, to see my 9 year old grandson on his birthday. An hour each way, and it's giving me time to assess the car, never having driven or even passengered in a Morgan, it's a completely new and interesting experience.

The car is far more sophisticated than I was expecting, quiet, [for a convertible], smooth engine and transmission, even the suspension copes reasonably until larger potholes and cross ridges, where it has bottomed out a couple of times, which doesn't bode too well if we are fully laden.

The engine pulls quite well, though I keep thinking that more power wouldn't go amiss, [you can never have enough, of course], and finally, I thought it would be a good idea to practice putting the hood up. It was a good job I was practicing in my garage, it wasn't so much the acres of canvas that got me, but the fiendishly complicated framework which needed stretching out. What a nightmare it must have been to design that, and yet there are other 4 seater convertibles with much easier hoods - the Morris Minor which we owned years ago, comes to mind. I'm sure that a more aesthetically pleasing look could be constructed, if one didn't want or need the full headroom in the rear, which I don't, as it is mainly for dogs, junk and luggage etc. There's food for thought there........

Peoples reactions were either ambivalent or very positive where they actually stopped to talk and admire.

The other thing I've noticed is that the car doesn't encourage fast driving, unlike my Caterham, which, no matter how much of a gentle jaunt I am on, keeps telling me it wants to go faster. Maybe I am old enough for a Morgan after all?
