Yep, it was around the Neolithic/Bronze Age transition that there was a vast deforestation of Dartmoor and similar woodlands. It coincided with the wider adoption of farming, and the shift from Hunter Gatherer to Agriculturalist

The planet was certainly warmer in the pre-roman and neolithic periods.

Essentially, the increase in CO2 that concerns so many may actually be holding back another mini ice age.


Ruddiman suggests that the deforestation and resultant wood burning in the neolithic was as contributory to global warming as the Industrial Revolution.....
