Had a blast yesterday

First time out in the Morgan since Christmas Day

Hood down, side screens off, tonneau cover on, furry aviator hat, gloves, trench coat on

Now normally when I'm in the Morgan I like to think I'm engendering Morgan love to all I pass as they smile and wave but yesterday sad to say I think I made a Morgan enemy so much so that an Audi driver who thought he could burn me off at a set of traffic lights, will wake up in a cold sweat, mumbling and swearing for ever more at red Morgan owners.

It was entirely his own making ....I think

There I was in Horwich on my way down the A6 to a toy and train collectors fair at the Bolton football stadium when I stopped for a set of red lights at a crossroads. The road was quite wide but not marked as two lanes. I was positioned neatly left of centre when a silver Audi pulled up alongside as though turning right

Before the lights changed he edged forward to just cross the line

I had the fly off handbrake on and remained motionless debating in my head whether to race just in case he wasn't turning right

The lights changed, in a split second I thought, damn it, I'll go for broke
He raced forward trying to overtake
I kept accelerating, he nudged slightly ahead but then I changed up and was alongside and undertook and was half a car length in front
Both engines screaming
He ran out of road
He had to duck out and slam on, firing his horn in frustration
Completely uncharacteristically, (must have been a mix of adrenaline & triumphalism) I raised my right arm and pointed my be-gloved index finger - "one nil'

He made several attempts to pass me for the next mile or so but couldn't as it was a built up area with islands and pedestrian crossings

We both turned right at a roundabout but he went into a jammed right filter lane and I carried straight on to the stadium

Phew!

That little drive blew a few cobwebs out
