Well, not today or for a while methinks.
Mind you, last Friday we drove into Spain and stopped in the Pineta valley for a picnic. Beautiful day, glorious scenery, hardly a soul on the roads, and then on the way back, stopped at a cross-roads in a place called Broto and ... ahh ... stuck in 4th gear.
It still is.
Drove all the way back home, over the top (Col de Pourtalet, etc). about 90-odd miles in 4th. Rather nerve-racking driving through various villages ("Give Way" what "Give way" ?) but we got home in the end.
So, for the moment, there's a rather Poorlymog sulking in the garage waiting for me to do something.
Spent all last week looking up LT77 info on the net and various Land-Rover sites pointed to the same problem - it would appear, as I understand it, that the 3rd/4th selector slipper has, er, slipped and is blocking the selector/synchro ring.
Ashcroft Transmissions can repair the 'box, but the logistical problems and costs with getting the unit to and from the UK have persuaded (convinced) me to do it myself.
Whilst I've found different Land-Rover repair manuals, I've come across an excellent French website - Cambouis.com - which explains the complete disassembly/reassembly process for the LT77 in simple (and rather amusing) Scruffymog terms, and without resorting to the numerous official Land-Rover Tools N° XYZ sited in the officiel manuals.
So, once I get the engine hoist, off we go and hopefully I'll be able to get the wretched thing back in the road before the snow comes...
Cheers,
Scruffymog
