I have two running rigs. If no or only intermittent rain is expected, then it's no sidescreens and tonneau cover in place. If it's raining heavily or about to, then I fit the sidescreens and remove the tonneau cover, making it easy to erect or drop the hood as required.

Generally I dislike having the sidescreens fitted, they flap and rattle and compromise elbow room. I nearly always use just the tonneau cover.

On my car, driving hood up with no sidescreens at any speed over around 45mph causes the hood to flap up and down. I am concerned about the stresses placed on the windscreen frame, so I avoid doing it.
