Mercedes are famously ruthless in their dealings with replica builders. Normally any new producer will be raided and all molds & tooling destroyed before they have a chance to go into production. Therefore, your 190SL was almost certainly the real deal. See HERE for an example.

Reminds me of Harley Davidson trying to copyright the sound of their engines. Even in the USA that got thrown out of court.
