Having checked 5 different forecasts yesterday, all of which had central and eastern England as being dry today, I took the train over to Melvin Rutter to collect my 2010 plus 4 this morning. My intent was to drive home across country avoiding the motorways.

The rain started just as I left the garage and set out on my 120 mile drive. Straight, flat, crowded roads, roundabouts every mile or so, idiots driving and rain coming in through all of the places previously discussed on TM. By the time I got to Brackley I was in a foul mood and beginning to wonder whether The Morgan was a big mistake.

I crossed the M40, and as I passed through Banbury, the sky cleared and the sun came out, the roads started to wind their way up and down the hills and there was practically nothing else on the road. By the time I stopped at a country pub for lunch, there was a smile on my face from ear to ear. Fantastic drive all the way home thereafter, then took the mrs out for her first spin.

Nothing is going to wipe the smile off my face this evening.
